Our Events

Please note that, unfortunately, Kicks For Kids will not be hosting the RGI River Run in 2016.  Thank you to everyone who has inquired about this year’s event, and for all of the people that have participated, sponsored and/or volunteered in it over the past 19 years.  Kicks For Kids hopes to bring the 20th RGI River Run back in 2017; details to come.  Enjoy your summer . . . and happy running!

Our events are the primary source of revenue, which is needed to support our programs. The main fundraising event is the RGI River Run, held annually since 1996. Thousands of people have been running Memorial Day weekend to support Kicks for Kids. Other events, which can vary from year to year, include galas, dinner, and sporting events. Check our website and Facebook posts for up to date information.

Our current events include:

River Run

Kicks for Kids hosts the RGI River Run 5k on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend each year. The River Run serves to raise money for KFK programs as well as awareness about KFK efforts to “level the playing field” for children challenged by physically, mentally, or by their environment.
The Purple People Bridge in Newport serves as both the start and finish line for the race. The day starts with the Special K, a shortened course for children with special needs. Once they all cross the finish line, the 5K Race/Walk begins. The day concludes with the Children’s Fun Run and the after party at Arnie’s, across from Newport on the Levee.
To all who came out and took part 2015 event, thank you for supporting Kicks for Kids! Our 19th Annual RGI River Run was another success, with over 1,000 participants and spectators, we raised over $55,000 in net proceeds! The funds will be used to host multiple youth programs this summer, fall and winter for children looking to be given the same opportunities as other local kids! Thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers, donors, and runners for making this event possible and for helping us to impact the lives of deserving children.

We’ll be hosting the 20th annual RGI River Run on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Save the date, and join the fun while supporting a good cause!

Pete Minor
Basketball Camp

This camp is designed to encourage dads and father figures alike to take an active role in their child’s life; stressing the importance of spending time with them and participating in fun activities like playing basketball. The one day camp will promote the basic fundamentals of basketball (shooting, ball handling, passing, defense, rebounding, and offensive moves). All campers and their father figures will be playing ball, so please wear comfortable athletic clothing! Shannon Minor, NKU and Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall-of-Famer, developed this camp in memory of his father, Pete Minor, who lost his life in April 2011. Pete was an excellent husband, father, grandfather, coach and friend who instilled discipline, work ethic and a positive attitude to everyone he met. Pete enjoyed sports and working/playing with children as well as helping others who were less fortunate. Many of Shannon’s favorite memories are of the hours he spent on the court with Pete rebounding for him. Shannon designed this camp in hopes that more father figures will enthusiastically participate in their kid’s life creating memories and experiences, similar to the ones Shannon has of his dad, they could treasure for a lifetime. All campers and their father figure will receive a t-shirt and dinner. Additionally campers will take home a basketball and a photo of them with their father figure. Father figures will have a Q&A session with a well-known former college basketball player or college coach. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase. All proceeds of the Third Annual Pete Minor Father/Child Basketball Camp are generously being donated to Kicks For Kids. Thus furthering Shannon and Pete’s desire for strong family bonds and helping the less fortunate. Camp is taking place on Saturday, June 20th, 2015 from 3pm-7pm at the Friar’s Club in Cincinnati, OH. Admission is $60.00 for one father figure and one child; additional children cost $25.00 each; price includes dinner.
