A record 1330 runners and walkers crossed the finish line at the 13th Annual RGI River Run, presented by Duke Energy, on Saturday, May 23rd. Thanks to many exciting changes that have been implemented over the last four years, the RGI River Run is firmly among the top ten largest races in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area! The event helped net over $45,000, which will now be directed towards a number of youth enrichment programs.
Top runners, families and recreational athletes came out to Newport on the Levee to participate in the 5K run/walk over Memorial Day weekend. The Purple People Bridge once again provided the perfect setting, especially for all of the post-race events. Participants enjoyed live music by The RumRunners, a post-race party at Arnie's on the Levee, as well as a chance to win a door prize! First Watch also provided its pancakes, while Panera handed out its bagels to the runners and walkers.
Something truly unique to the RGI River Run is the Special K, which kicked things off before the 5K run/walk; it is held specifically for children with disabilities. The kids were cheered along Fourth Street, and were beaming with pride when they each received a medal after crossing the finish line. The Bengals' all-time leading scorer, Jim Breech then kicked-off the 5K, which went through Newport, Covington and Cincinnati and crossed three bridges. All the children who participated received a medal, while exciting prizes and trophies were given out to both the top children and adults following the event. Everyone was then invited to attend the post-race party at Arnie's on the Levee for free food and drink.
Kicks For Kids offers a special thanks to our sponsors, who helped make this event the most successful to date! We would also like to thank the incredible race committee, as well as more than 80 volunteers, who made the event run smoothly. Without the help of so many wonderful supporters throughout the Tri-state, we could not help so many local children in need.
